Union Home Minister inaugurated awareness programme on “Pradhan Mantri Phasal Bima Yojana”

Sri Rajnath Singh, Union Minister of Home Affairs inaugurated one-day awareness programme on “Pradhan Mantri Phasal Bima Yojana” at KVK, Lucknow today. The event was organised in collaboration with ICAR-Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow and with support from ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kanpur.

In his inaugural address, the Minister remarked that 100 districts of the country have been targeted under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojna and by the end of 2016 the irrigation plan of these districts will be finalised. Similarly for making the excess flood water available to the dry and drought prone areas, river linking scheme will be strengthened. He further stated the Government’s commitment for improvement of soil health conditions at farmers’ fields which has been reflected through the distribution of one crore soil health cards by March 2016 and this is to be enhanced to 9 crores by 2017. Highlighting the special features ofPhasal Bima Yojana, he added that farmers will have to pay a very low premium for insuring their crops which will be 2% for Kharif crops, 1.5% for Rabi crops and 5% for commercial and horticultural crops. Remaining amount of the premium will be borne by the Government.

The Minister also visited Exhibitions stalls of ICAR Institutes and other agencies and interacted with the scientists and development officials.

Shri Kaushal Kishore, Member of Parliament, Mohanlalganj Constituency and the Guest of Honour of the event emphasized on promotion of locally adaptable varieties of crops. He also appealed to the farmers to promote organic farming for better soil health and enhanced farm income.

Four progressive farmers including two women farmers were honoured with Deen Dayal Antyoday Kisan Samman by the Chief Guest for their extra-ordinary contribution in harvesting impressive dividends from their very small land holdings.

Dr. A.D. Pathak, Director, ICAR-IISR, Lucknow, highlighted the significant achievements of the Institute and its commitment for upliftment of sugarcane growers through various extension activities like Soil Health Card Distribution, Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav Scheme, Skill Entrepreneurship Development Programme etc.

Dr. U.S. Gautam, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kanpur, briefed on the significant roles of Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Uttar Pradesh in demonstrating and popularizing the location specific technologies and capacity building of farmers, farm-women and other stakeholders. He also shared other frontline extension and educational programmes of ICAR namely Farmer-FIRST, ARYA, Student READY, etc being lunched in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

A Kisan Sammelan and pre-kharif workshop was also organised on at this occasion in which more than 4000 farmers participated.

KVK, Lucknow in collaboration with ICAR-IISR, Lucknow and with support from ICAR-ATARI, Kanpur organized a one day awareness programme on “Pradhan Mantri Phasal Bima Yojana,” on April 2, 2016. The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Beema Yojna Awareness programme was inaugurated by Sri Rajnath Singh Ji, Hon’ble Home Minister, Govt. of India. In his inaugural address, Hon’ble Home Minister highlighted the various ambitious schemes of Govt. of India for the interest of farmers of the country. While addressing the large gathering of the farmers, Scientists and officers from Lucknow, Sitapur, Unnao, Auriya, Hardoi, Raebareli, Hon’ble Minister remarked that 100 districts of the country have been targeted under Pradhan Mantri Agriculture Irrigation scheme and by the end of 2016, the irrigation plan of these districts will be finalised. Similarly for making the excess flood water available to the dry and drought prone areas, river linking scheme will be strengthened. He further stated the Government’s commitment for improvement of soil health conditions at farmers’ fields which has been reflected through the distribution of one crore soil health cards by March 2016 and this is to be enhanced to 9 crores by 2017. For promoting the traditional and organic farming, more than 8000 organic clusters are working in the country. Highlighting the special features of Phasal Bima Yojana, he told that farmers will have to pay a very low premium for insuring their crops which will be 2% for Kharif crops, 1.5% for Rabi crops and 5% for commercial and horticultural crops which can be easily paid by even small and marginal farmers. Remaining amount of the premium will be borne by the Government.

On this Occasion, four progressive farmers including two women farmers were honoured with Deen Dayal Antyoday Kisan Samman by the Chief Guest for their extra-ordinary contribution in harvesting impressive dividends from their very small land holdings. Awarded farmers/farm women were Sh. Ramesh Verma of Block Gosaiganj; Sh. Ramchandr Yadav and Mrs. Kamla Devi of Block Sarojini Nagar and Mrs. Bitana Devi of Block Mohanlalganj of District Lucknow.

Hon’ble Minister also visited Exhibitions stalls of ICAR Institutes and other agencies and interacted with the scientists and development officials. The Guest of Honour of the function, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Mohanlalganj Constituency, Sh. He also appealed to the farmers to promote organic farming for better soil health and enhanced farm income.
